MELANIE HUBBARD - Chair for Literature
Melanie Hubbard is a poet, essayist, teacher, and scholar. She received a PhD in English from Columbia University in 1998 and has taught at New College of Florida, Eckerd College, and the University of Tampa. She was granted a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 2006 for her work on Emily Dickinson’s manuscripts.
Her poetry chapbook, Gilbi Winco Swags, was published in 2008 by Cannibal Books, and a full-length poetry book manuscript, “Dressed Like a Kwaker,” is currently seeking a publisher. Poems have appeared in a wide variety of nationally recognized journals, including Fence, Typo, Swink, Cannibal, horse less review, Cake Train, New CollAge, and Strange Machine. She has published personal essays, book reviews, opinion, travel, and arts writing in the St. Petersburg Times.
She has had ties to Ruskin, Florida since 1986, moving here permanently in 1997 to marry Dr. Arthur “Mac” Miller. They have one child, two cats, a dog, and a fish. This is her fist foray into being on the board of anything.
