JOAN SHALLECK

Brooklyn born Joan Shalleck is a graduate of the Cooper Union School of Fine Art in NYC and Pace University's School of Education. She was employed for several years by Time Inc. and CBS Network Radio. Working in Westchester County NY for 35 years before settling into the Florida lifestyle, Joan has been an art teacher, as well as the artist-in-residence for the Ossining Public Library and founder of the Greater Ossining Arts Council. She served on the Board of the NYC Chapter of the American Institute of Wine and Food. writing and editing their newsletter for four years.

In retirement, Shalleck serves on the Board of the Friends of the SouthShore Regional Library and the SSAC, the Advisory Council for the John Crawford Art Studios and is the coordinator for the SSRL Public Art Project. In a separate mode, Joan has been teaching people how to write their memoirs since 2005; first at USF, then at the SouthShore Regional Library and now at Hillsborough Community College in Ruskin, Florida. Her sons, Adam, an architect, and David, a Master Chef/Consultant, both live in San Francisco.
