BOARD of DIRECTORS

 

STEVE STANCIL, President

Steve Stancil is currently the Dean of Student Services with Hillsborough Community College South Shore Center. He has been with Hillsborough Community College for four years and has been actively involved with the development of the New South Shore Campus. He is a nine year resident of Ruskin and has been involved with the South Shore area associations such as; the SouthShore Arts Council, South Shore Coalition, Friends of the Library and the South Shore Round Table. Steve taught the Visual Arts for Snead State Community College for 13 years prior to returning to Florida and continues to teach as often as possible. He has a B.A. Education and Fine Arts from the University of South Florida and a M.Ed. Secondary Education from the University of Montevallo. Steve is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership at USF.

FRED JACOBSON, Vice President

A native of San Diego, Fred graduated from San Diego State University. He served four years in the United States Air Force (USAF), including one year in Vietnam teaching English as a second language to pilot candidates, receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal. For almost three years, he served in Japan and the Island of Okinawa working in the outpatient psychiatric clinics of USAF hospitals.

In his 27 year tenure with the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper, Fred improved collection productivity more than 50% through employee training and new data systems. He is an active member of the National Association of Credit Manager and the Credit & Financial Development Division (CFDD). Fred served as chairman of the board of San Diego Credit Association and was an active board member for over a decade.

Fred serves on the Hillsborough County Historic Resources review Board, South Shore Regional Library “Friends of the Library”, SouthShore Arts Council, Ruskin History Project (RuskinHistory.org) and is president of the Ruskin Community Development Foundation.

In his free time Fred enjoys spending time on the water or teaching pre-Columbian crafts at Camp Bayou Outdoor Learning Center.

BETH HOWARD, Treasurer

Owner of South Shore Gallery in Apollo Beach, she is an ambassador for the Ruskin Chamber of Commerce. She is an active member of the Ruskin Jr. Women's Club, Apollo Beach Women's Club, South Shore Business Association and the Apollo Beach Chamber of Commerce. She was presented the E.G. Simmons Person of the Year award for 2007.

NINA TATLOCK, Secretary

A native of Indiana, Nina graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Clothing and Textiles.  She currently works as a fiber artist in her home studio in Apollo Beach, and also maintains a home/studio in Indianapolis, Indiana.  Nina was a founding board member of Art IN Hand cooperative artists gallery in Zionsville, Indiana and a faculty member of the Indianapolis Art Center.  She has taught various fiber technique classes and participated in exhibits throughout the state of Indiana, and also has pieces in private collections throughout the US.

CARLA FLOYD

Southeast Regional Publisher for The Tampa Tribune and Publisher of the Sunbelt Newspaper weekly group, she serves on the Ruskin Chamber of Commerce Board as VP of Marketing and chairs the Ambassador Committee, is Secretary of the Sun City Center Chamber Board. Her 3-year term as a board member of The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce just ended. Carla is a board member of the Community Papers of Florida and past president of The Florida Press Association.

ROBERT NEWHART

Currently the General Manager of the Inn at Little Harbor and resides in Apollo Beach. Actively involved with many of the South Shore communities, he participates in various sponsorships, contributions and fundraising efforts to the Mary and Martha House, the Sheriff's Youth Ranch, the promotion the Arts and other community events. He is a member of the Apollo Beach, Ruskin, Brandon and Sun City Center Chambers of Commerce.

SUZANNE S. PRACH

Suzanne is the coordinator of the John Crawford Art Education Studio at South Shore Regional Library. She is an artist and enjoys memberships of the Art Club of Sun City Center and the Art Center Manatee. Suzanne has been a resident of the South Shore Community for 17 years.

BRUCE MARSH

Bruce is Professor Emeritus at the University of South Florida, Tampa, where he taught Drawing and Painting for 35 years. He established the Electronic Media Lab in the School of Art and Art History there, he served as Department Chair in 1989-91. As a painter, he has had extensive exhibitions, and recieved the State of Florida Grant for Individual Artists twice. He has done a large number of commissioned paintings for Public and Corporate Spaces, and is represented in numerous Museum Collections. He currently lives and maintains a studio in Ruskin, on the Little Manatee River, and also a home and studio in Franlin, North Carolina. His painting over the years has employed various approaches to landscape, as a vehicle for his exploration of his interests in Light, Color, Vision and Perception.
